Pippa Blake was born in Portsmouth, England in 1954, and studied Fine Art (Painting) at Camberwell College of Art, London from 1972 to 1976. During that time she exhibited with the New Contemporaries and in the Stowells Trophy, R.A. In 2005 she graduated from the Visual Arts Programme, West Dean College, Sussex with a Postgraduate Diploma (Distinction).
Blake has travelled the world extensively but now lives and works on the coast near Portsmouth, Hampshire. She has frequently exhibited in the UK and New Zealand with both solo and group shows. In March 2010 Blake had a solo show in Auckland in collaboration with Louis Vuitton and returned to the UK to an art residency and solo exhibition at West Dean College during May/June 2010. Blake is predominantly a painter but also makes exploratory work using Perspex, acetate and inkjet. She works mostly with digital images from film stills and Internet news sites – current ideas stem from images of the aftermath of war and terrorism.
She is represented in New Zealand by Artis Gallery in Auckland and shows work on a regular basis in Sussex and London.
